Vij’s

There are two sides to Vij’s and they’re both great!  There is Rangoli for lunch which doubles as a small supermarket selling all sorts of Indian delicacies, herbs and spices and finished, pre-packed meals that you simply heat and serve.

In the evening (from 5.30pm onwards) the venue switches up to next door at Vij’s.  This is the more formal dining experience and whilst they do not take bookings, it is certainly worth the wait.  Indeed, the very fact that they don’t take bookings and you may have to wait up to an hour or more simply means that the staff look after you while you wait at the bar plying you with Indian appetizers and chai.

My wife and I had the good fortune to meet Vikram Vij, the owner and head chef at Vij’s, when we dropped into Rangoli for lunch one day.  He was kind enough to sign a couple of his excellent cookery books that we bought.  He is a very pleasant man and it shows in his business.
