Description:

One of my favourite places ever!  Will, the owner operator, is authentic as you get in this genre…bold, big and boisterous (ask him what he thinks of the Canuck’s powerplay and then try to get a word in edge-wise!!). The food is spectacular, well presented and a good volume.  The atmosphere is great, although seating is at a premium during the extended lunch period.  Breakfast is off the charts.  You have to try their eggs benny’s, especially the advocato and tomato…amazing!  Mushroom Bisque is the best I have ever had.  I would write a lot more, but a review from their website says it all:

The Skinny On Phat

Smoked meat rules at this funky, self-styled, “Jewish joint” on Mainland. The smoked meat is flown in from Montreal and the sandwiches are served hot on freshly-baked rye with a spread of mustard, a kosher dill pickle, and a bowl of matzo ball soup on the side. Most menu items come in “skinny” and “phat” sizes. Another popular choice is the clubhouse, which comes with a heap of crispy poppy coleslaw. If you’re a more creative diner, you can design your own PHAT sandwich. A giant chalkboard displays a step-by-step menu that makes ordering fun. Pick your carb, protein, dairy, veggies and condiments. French fries, yam fries, onion rings and poutine (a Quebecois snack of fries, melted cheese curds and gravy) are tasty sides. There is also an all-day breakfast and decadent desserts.

Thirsty?
PHAT is fully licensed, so you can wash down your meal with a beer. Choose from an extensive list of domestic and international bottles. A margarita machine churns out daiquiris, milkshakes and smoothies, for those who like to end their meal on a sweet note. A full espresso bar ensures that you get your morning jolt.

You’ll Be Back
Throughout the lunch hour, the deli is packed with regulars who are on a first-name basis with the staff. Takeout is popular, but if you have time to eat in, you can soak up the friendly, bustling atmosphere. The welcoming deli has exposed brick and piping, and brightly-painted walls serve as the backdrop for collectable hockey jerseys. You can also catch live televised sports at PHAT, but if you’d rather be outside, grab an outdoor seat and enjoy the trendy neighbourhood.
